Songs for Mom: Celebrate Motherhood with a Playlist

Could anyone offer you more love and self-sacrifice than your dear mother? She brought you into this world, taught you to mind your manners, and encouraged you to do your best. I sang to you and read to you, loved it when you were sick and changed your diapers. (Maybe one day you'll change hers.)

Pay homage to mothers with a playlist of songs about the hardest and most rewarding work in the world. We have a long list of songs about motherhood, including pop, rock, country, R&B, hip-hop and metal.

1. "Mother" of Sugarland

Who has always been your biggest champion and main problem solver big and small? Who enveloped you in unconditional love and acceptance even in the most difficult times? Who listened, taught and encouraged you? This 2018 country song is a beautiful tribute to mothers around the world.

She'll take you in, feed her friends
Your open arms are welcoming
He'll rub your back all night when you're crying.
She will hear you tell your story
Hold your fear and all your worries
Help you find the truth when everyone else is lying
Even when it's useless, she keeps trying.

2. "As My Mother Does" by Lauren Alaina

Between what her mother gave her genetically and the years as parents, it's hard not to end up as her mini-me. For the young woman in this 2012 country song, many of the traits that make her special come from her mother: her laugh, her determination, and even her short temper. The narrator considers his mother a model, friend and protector: an angel.

3. "Don't Forget To Remember Me" de Carrie Underwood

Grown up daughters can enjoy this 2005 country song about leaving home and discovering how much you miss the people you left behind, especially Mom. The narrator recalls how she left home at age 18 with her mother's advice and her mother's pleas to remember her.

Now that the narrator is settled and alone, she finds that their roles have been reversed. She calls her mother with updates on her life, questions about her home, and requests to remember her.

4. Tupac's "Dear Mother"

Instead of sugarcoating his mother as a no-nonsense angel, Tupac keeps it real with a loving tribute to his mother. He recognizes that his mother was human. Tupac's parents were members of the Black Panther Party, and his mother was often not around during Tupac's childhood and adolescence due to her activism. She later became addicted to crack cocaine and eventually entered treatment for drugs.

The emotionally expressive 1995 rap points out that, throughout a struggle-filled life, she was always her biggest advocate. It was named one of the 20 greatest hip-hop songs of all time.

5. "In My Daughter's Eyes" de Martina McBride

This 2003 country song highlights all the good qualities mothers and daughters find in each other. Daughters perceive their mothers as brave, strong and heroic, while mothers see hope for a better world and a reflection of themselves.

Express your gratitude for mothers and other heroes in your life. We are where we are in life thanks to your helping hands and hearts.

6. "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" de Glen Campbell e Steve Wariner

From the earliest moments of his life, the boy in this moving 1987 country song found solace in the heart of his beloved mother. In addition to her years as a mother, her mother gave her lifelong spiritual guidance and values. For that he is eternally grateful:

There should be a hall of fame for mothers.
The most exclusive and precious pearl creations
And heaven help us always to remember
That the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.

7. "Mom Tried" de Merle Haggard

Not every child becomes a superstar. Mothers understand this and try to value each of their children. Unfortunately, they get a lot of blame for their child's bad behavior. However, the son in this 1968 country song wants to set the record straight. Her lifetime of bad decisions wasn't her fault.

The mother mentioned in this 1996 metal song warns her rebellious son that the brightest flame burns the fastest. He pushes back, explaining that he has a wild streak and that she just needs to let him go.

Like any rebellious son, he must make his way in the world and wants his mother to untie the ties on his apron so he can become his own man. We all have to learn for ourselves. Something tells me he will always come back with a fondness in his heart for his mother.

9. "Mom" de Meghan Trainor (com Kelli Trainor)

If your mom is the best, go ahead and scream like Meghan Trainor does in this 2016 pop song. Meghan's mom is her best friend. In addition to giving her unconditional love, he taught her how to love herself.

10. "Oh Mother" de Christina Aguilera

This 2007 pop ballad is a tribute song to a mother who suffered years of domestic violence and left her marriage when her husband became angry with their children. The narrator introduces his mother sadly betrayed by a manipulative lover who turned violent when they got married. The daughter encourages her mother to never look back as she did the right thing not only for her family, but for herself as well.

11. "Mama's Song" de Carrie Underwood

This 2010 country song will blow your mind. A daughter assures her mother that the man she marries is worthy. The mother prayed for a good man who would treat her daughter well and keep his promises. Having found her better half, she doesn't want her mother to worry about her.

12. "Somebody's a Hero" by Jamie O'Neal

Mothers are the silent heroines of our lives, according to this 2005 country ditty. While yours may not have walked on the moon or saved anyone from a burning building, there are significant contributions that mothers make every day. From fulfilling practical roles in our lives (such as a driver and fast food cook) to parenting roles, every mother is a larger-than-life hero in someone's eyes, no matter how old the child is. This song emphasizes the larger-than-life quality that children perceive their mothers to have.

13. "Ring Off" by Beyoncé

Mothers inspire their children to spread their wings and fly. In this 2014 pop song, a daughter switches roles with her newly divorced mother to encourage her and assert her worth. For years, the mother put up with an unhappy marriage of lies and emotional abuse, but now she has taken the ring off and is discovering love all over again.

14. "Promise-me to Tempt" by Madonna

The girl in this moving 1988 rock ballad mourns the loss of her mother. He remembers his mother's tenderness and tries to remember her smile, forever frozen in time. Did you kiss him goodbye? It's not fair to blame her mother for the death, she would have been with her if she could.

15. "Mother Like Mine" de The Band Perry

Would the world be a better place if everyone had a mother like yours? The woman in this 2013 country song knows she would do this because she would raise everyone to be a friend. Dreams would be deeper and no one would ever wonder if anyone wanted them. Her mother is such a blessing to her life that he would share her if she could.

Mom's Favorite Quotes

You better watch yourself. Your face will freeze like this.

Beds are for sleeping, not jumping.

"I don't know" is not an answer.

What part of "no" do you not understand?

Because I said. And so.

I don't care who started it.

Your hands are not broken.

Don't sit too close to the television. You will ruin your eyes.

I brought you into this world and I can take you out of it!

I'm not your servant.

No one said life was fair.

Look at me when I talk to you.

Close the door. We are not heating (nor air conditioning) the entire neighborhood.

If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times...

Think of those poor starving children in Africa.

Money does not grow on trees.

If everyone jumped off a cliff, would you jump too?

When you have your own house, you can make your own rules.

16. "A Song for Mom" de Boyz II Men

The guy in this 1997 R&B song isn't shy about declaring his love for his mother, his number one girl. She is your teacher, advocate, and personal life coach. He is forever grateful for his emotional support and encouragement through her life challenges:

there were so many times
Looking back on when I was so scared
And then you would come to me and tell me
I can face anything.

17. "I'll Be There" de Mac Miller

No one protects you like a mother. In this 2016 hip-hop issue, the artist gives a shoutout to his faithful mother, who not only brought him into the world, but made sure he was prepared to succeed in life. She took care of his material needs, saw to his security, nurtured his dreams, and took care of him when he was sick. He longs for the day when he can pay off the debt, giving him the lifestyle he deserves.

18. "Baby Mommy" de Fantasia

Motherhood is hard enough. Single motherhood requires almost heroic efforts. This 2004 R&B song is an anthem for single mothers everywhere. Fantasia acknowledges how difficult it is to raise a child alone while working multiple jobs and going to school. She sends them the love and respect they deserve.

19. "Hard" by Craig Morgan

In this 2006 country song, a husband honors his wife's strength of character. She is a breast cancer survivor and an active mother. The last one home to sleep and wake up before everyone else, the busy mom gets the kids ready for school, organizes carpools and keeps her house running smoothly.

Her husband is full of admiration:

She is strong, she pushes; I can't delay it
She can take anything life hands her.
There was a time
Before she was mine
When I thought it was hard.

20. "I'll Always Love My Mom" por The Intruders

This 1973 song is a Philadelphia soul classic and is an absolutely perfect way to acknowledge mom. The narrator declares his devotion to his "favorite girl" who brought him into the world and sacrificed herself by working hard to keep him. She taught him good manners and he lost sleep over his heavy burdens as well as his bad behavior (he is regretful now).

Moms, you only have one, so cherish yours!

questions and answers

To ask:Which band used the words "mother mother" in a song?

Respondents:Since I don't have more information to go on, I'll have to come up with some possibilities.

1) Fat Freddy's Drop is an eclectic (jazz/R&B/reggae) band from New Zealand. His 2013 song "Mother Mother" features the following lyrics:

... Like a mother mother

like a mother mother

like a mother mother

Anywhere I go

Anywhere I go

like a mother mother

When our time is up

She will be there to face us

Like a mother mother...

2) The Veronicas, the Australian punk-pop duo, released a song entitled "Mother Mother". It had the following letter with "mother mother":

"... mother mother

Can you hear me?

I'm just calling to say hello

How is the weather?

How is my father?

I'm alone, heavens, aren't I?

mother mother

Are you listening?

Just a phone call to ease your mind

(Video) You're my mom Mother's Day song

Life is perfect

Better than never

The distance that blinds the heart..."

3) The legendary American rock band Bon Jovi released a song in 1992, "If I Was Your Mother", which contained the following lyrics:

... There's no one else you need

If I was your mother, mother

If I were your mother, mother...

4) Danzig, American heavy metal band, released an obscure song from 1994 called "Mother" with the following excerpts from the lyrics:

"... Madre

Tell your children not to follow my path

Tell your children not to listen to my words

what do they mean

What did they say

mother mother..."

While I think Bon Jovi is probably the song/band you're referring to, if none of them are and you'd like to give me more information, you can do so in the comments section of the playlist article. Be sure to include whether it's a pop, rock or country song and as much detail as possible (e.g. which decade was popular, what the song was about, an all-girl band, any tracks that are relevant and potentially useful) . 🇧🇷

To ask:Which group used the words "I miss you mom" in a song?

Respondents:There are several songs and groups with "I miss you mama" in the lyrics: 1) "I Miss You Mama" from War & Peace (1993), 2) "So Alone" from Men at Large (1992) and 3) "I feel you Missing Mom" by N2You (1994).

To ask:What song has lyrics about a hearse taking your mother away?

Respondents:There is a classic hymn performed by many artists called "Will the Circle Be Unbroken (By and By)". Originally, in 1935, it was covered by the Carter Family. Depending on who sings it, the lyrics vary slightly, but here are the lyrics featuring Johnny Cash and the Carter family:

I was standing at my window,

On a cold and cloudy day

When I saw the hearse roll by

To take my mother away

Or circle will be intact?

Little by little, Lord, little by little

There's a better home waiting

In heaven, lord, in heaven

I told that undertaker

Funeral director, please drive slowly

For this lady you carry

Lord I hate to see here go

Or circle will be intact?

Little by little, Lord, little by little

There's a better home waiting

In heaven, lord, in heaven

Oh, I followed closely

I tried to hold on and be brave

But I couldn't hide my sadness

When they laid her in the tomb

Or circle will be intact?

Little by little, Lord, little by little

There's a better home waiting

In heaven, lord, in heaven

I came home, my house was lonely

I missed my mom, she's gone

All my brothers, sisters crying

What a sad and lonely home

Or circle will be intact?

Little by little, Lord, little by little

There's a better home waiting

In heaven, lord, in heaven

We sang childhood songs.

Hymns of faith that strengthened us

The ones mother Maybelle taught us

Hear the angels sing

Or circle will be intact?

Little by little, Lord, little by little

There's a better home waiting

In heaven, lord, in heaven

Or circle will be intact?

Little by little, Lord, little by little

(Video) Luke Combs - When It Rains It Pours

There's a better home waiting

In heaven, sir, in heaven.

To ask:What song has the lyric at the end: "Paid in full with three little words. Mom, I love you"?

Respondents:The song you're looking for is a Jimmy Dean country song from 1976 called I.O.U.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXvwgNVhz88

Many people check their wallets or purses

And far below, beyond credit cards and baby pictures, etc.

Usually you find a short piece of poetry with dog ears.

I was cleaning out my wallet the other day and found a bunch of IOUs.

Some of them 35 years late.

And you know the funny thing, all those IOUs are owed to one person.

And I felt that maybe now would be a good time for some accounting.

Mom, I hope you're listening.

Sweet lady, I.O.U. for so many things...

Many services, like a night watchman, for example...

Lying awake at night listening to coughing and crying and floorboards creaking

Hah-hah, and me being too late.

Boy you had the eye of an eagle and the roar of a lion

But you always had a heart as big as a house.

I will pay for services like fast food cook, chef, baker...

To make tuna and turkey hamburger,

And the big, muscular boys from the leftovers.

promissory note for cleaning services,

The daily washing of the face and ears, all done by hand.

And for the frequent cleaning of a little boy's pants

To try to make sure you've led a flawless life.

And to wash and iron that no laundry could do.

For drying the tears of childhood and solving the problems of growing up.

I will pay for the services of bodyguards,

For protecting me from the terrors of storms and nightmares

Ha, and lots of green apples.

And God knows, I.O.U. for medical care,

For taking care of me through measles, mumps, bruises, bumps, splinters, and spring fever.

Uh-oh, let's not forget medical advice, important stuff like,

"If you keep scratching it, it'll never work."

Or: "If you cross your eyes, they will remain that way."

And probably the most important tip of all,

"Boy, make sure you're wearing clean underwear in case you have an accident."

and I.O.U. for veterinary services,

For feeding all the stray dogs I dragged home to the end of the rope,

And to cure the pain of dog love.

and I.O.U. for entertainment

Entertainment that kept the family going through tough times

And for wonderful productions at Christmas, Fourth of July, Birthdays

And for making the fantasy come true

And you did it all on such a limited budget.

promissory note for civil construction, to build kites and trust, hopes and dreams and

Somehow you made them all touch the sky

And for cementing a family together

So it would withstand the worst blows and bumps

And for laying a good solid foundation on which to build a life.

promissory note for transportation expenses

For taking me in your books for the necessities of life

That a growing child somehow, well, they just have to have it.

Things like, ha ha, a pair of tall boots

With a small pocket on the side for a knife.

And one thing, mom, I'll never forget

When there were two pieces of cake and three hungry people

You were always the one who decided, well I'm really not that hungry anyway.

These are just some of the things for which payment is late.

The person I owe it to worked very, very cheaply.

She survived only by dispensing with many things that she herself needed.

(Video) Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons - December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night) (Official Music Video)

My grades add up to more than I could ever hope to pay

But you know best of all

I know this, that she marked the entire bill as "Paid in Full"

For just one kiss and four little words: "Mom, I love you!"

To ask:Can I have a song for my mom to tell her I'll be here for her?

Respondents:I don't know what your mother is dealing with, but "At Your Side" (1999) by The Corrs is a comforting song that reassures someone that you will be there for them.

It's amazing how popular music can reflect our lives. Another great playlist. And I might add how much I enjoyed your list of "mom says" quotes. So funny and so true.

Strangely, all she could think of was Willie Nelson's "Mom, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys." LOL I think I failed on this one.

Bloom thank you for this playlist... God bless you so much and Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers you know including you... :) bless you again

Bloom, you made me miss my mother. There's always a part of me that isn't complete without her around.

Nikki - I hope you are having a good Mother's Day. You have a beautiful girl. Thanks for showing up.

Thank you flower. Yes, the mother is still alive, both in my two daughters and in me. Mother's Day for us is in March and this year has been great as I've just returned from a 10 week absence. Great reunion!

I thought of a hit song around here: "Does your mother know you're out?" from Aba. (sung in 'Mama Mia' too!)

We will

Ann: This is a new song and I love it too. It's so sincere. I am sorry for the loss of your mother. I'm sure the love and valuable lessons he imparted still live on. Have a wonderful Mother's Day.

ann carfrom south west England on 13th May 2018:

I love words number 1; my mom certainly did all those things. She died 10 years ago, but she is still with me every day. He was talented in many ways and taught me to be confident, look people in the eye when saying hello, shake hands firmly, and always try to be nice.

I don't know many of these songs and I'm trying to think of one that has charted in the UK but I can't. I'll take a look and see what I find!

Great hub as always!

We will

This is an interesting list of some great songs about mothers.

A mother faces every hardship with a smile and never lets her children know what she's been through.

Today is the day to celebrate and pay tribute to all the mothers on this planet.

God bless you all!

I loved the songs, they fit perfectly with today's date.

God bless you dear!
