What is U-Haul's reservation guarantee? U-Haul advertises a reservation guarantee, but it's not quite what it sounds like. Rather than guarantee your truck, U-Haul will give you $50 if it isn't ready or available on moving day.

Load Heavy Items in the Front: Place your heaviest items towards the front of the van. Refrigerators, washers, dryers and other heavy furniture work best packed closest to the cab. Keep the weigh balanced from one side to another. Continue loading boxes and other items in tiers on top of the appliances.

Always load heavier in front.

Heavier items should be loaded first, and lighter items can be placed on top and to the rear. Secure your cargo in place with rope or tie-downs. This will help protect your items as well as keep them from shifting during transit. Thanks for your question!

The 16 ft. Medium Truck can carry up to 3,500 pounds, including 250 medium boxes or one to 10 medium furniture items.

The rack rate for a hotel room is the published rate for one night's stay without any discounts or premiums included. Rack rates are the highest price that a hotel will charge for a room, and a single hotel may offer a different rack rate for each room type on property.

Unused days or mileage are not refunded. Additional days and additional miles are charged at the pre-agreed rate on the contract. Upon check-in fuel, vehicle damage and vehicle condition will be verified. With U-Haul, you can even check the truck in yourself with your smartphone if you choose to self-return your truck.

Pack Decor & Books

Items that are in your home purely for aesthetic purposes are good items to pack first when moving. This might include artwork, decor, books, magazines, and the like. These items are easy to pack first because chances are you won't need them during the move or the weeks preceding it.

Don't Leave Drawers Full of Belongings

Please empty your desk and dresser drawers before moving day. It's natural to think that your drawers are technically like “boxes” themselves, but moving heavy furniture is hard enough when it's empty, so imagine how much heavier a dresser is when the drawers are full!

Any room that's used for storage already, is the best place to start as chances are these items are not needed or used every day. We've listed the garage, guest room and basement as our recommended first rooms to pack.
